CSP is a more resent technology compared with COB and CSP products already reached mass scale production and is further expanding in lighting applications.
Both white color COB and CSP (2700K-6500K) emits light with GaN material. It means that both will require phosphor material to convert the original 470nm light to desired CCT. The key enabling technology for CSP LEDs is flip-chip packaging.
While both technologies allow ultra-high density in a small space (>800leds/meter) and allow shorter cutting sections which makes them ideal for modern, exclusive lighting design in the hospitality and retail sectors., COB uses a phosphor resin to cover all LEDs from the FPC, and CSP technology allows to cover each LED in a micro level allowing the strip to be CCT adjustable or Tunable White.
Also, to remember that these new technologies do not required extra PC diffuser which make is ideal for narrow spaces, and needless to say it will safe you lot of extra work.
Which is better? COB Strip of CSP Strip?
The answer will depend on you application, if your system is intended to provide not only dimming functionality but also tunable white or even RGBWC scenarios CSP strip will be your best choice. As you can see, CSP LED strips are ideal for meticulous professionals who want to go for an enveloping atmosphere, without sacrificing the combination of reflective materials.
Conclusion
One of the biggest complaints of traditional “SDM” LED flexible light strips is the hot spots of the entire light strip, COB and CSP technologies had come solve this problem. We will start to see more and more COB and CSP strip in the market. While COB already have very good penetration in the market, CSP will eventually pick-up the sales curve.
